POY, DTY, ATY, Chenille yarn: The Backbone of Modern Filament Industry

Among textile chemical fiber filaments, POY, DTY, ATY and Chenille yarn are the three mainstream basic categories, and they are also the raw materials with the largest usage and widest application in the weaving industry. Each has distinct process characteristics and applications, forming the core system of modern chemical fiber weaving.
POY, or partially oriented yarn, is as-spun yarn without texturing and setting after spinning. It has stable structure and good stretchability, mainly used as the base material for subsequent DTY texturing. Its specifications cover the full range from 20D to 3000D, adapting to various fabric thickness requirements. DTY, or draw textured yarn, undergoes texturing and crimping processes, featuring fluffy and soft hand feel, excellent elasticity, and wrinkle resistance. It is the main raw material for knitted garments, underwear, socks, sweaters, and lace fabrics. Most mid-to-high-end ready-to-wear fabrics on the market are woven from DTY.
ATY, or air textured yarn, is produced by blowing filaments with high-pressure air to create network crimps, possessing a hairiness and texture similar to short-staple cotton and linen. It has a natural matte finish and strong three-dimensionality on the fabric surface, and is widely used in high-end home textiles, sofa fabrics, wall coverings, decorative fabrics, and linen-like or cotton-like apparel. All three types can be customized according to denier, filament count, colored yarn, and functional modification, with multiple specifications ranging from 8F to 576F available to meet the full range of weaving needs from lightweight and close-fitting to heavy home textiles.
Understanding the characteristic differences among the three types of filaments is the basis for fabric development, material selection, and product positioning, and it is also the key for textile enterprises to achieve differentiated product layout and enhance market competitiveness.
